Also known to young people as “The Youthie”

  • Nowra Youth Services Inc. became incorporated in 2003 and is located at 132 Kinghorne Street, Nowra NSW  2541 at the Nowra Youth Centre.

 

  • This service works from the Nowra Youth Centre and is a not- for- profit, non-government organisation managed by a Centre Manager and a volunteer Management Committee. We are a community based organisation for young people between the ages of 12 to 17 years and 18 to 24 years.

 

  • Young people are able to access the Nowra Youth Centre during the following program times –
  • Our Admin Hours, Drop In Program Hours or our School Holiday Program Hours depending on your age. (check out age limits below).

 

  • Admin Hours – cater for young people aged 18 to 24years- By providing assistance with support, advocacy and referrals.
  • Drop In Program – caters for young people age 12 to 17 years.
  • School Holiday Program – caters for young people aged 12 to 17 years.

Our service provision encompasses and welcomes young people from all backgrounds and circumstances.

We are committed to providing a vision to enhance the quality of experience by creating an accessible, non-threatening, non-judgemental fun and interesting service offering activities to educate guide and enlighten young people.

Nowra Youth Centre’s activities also provide a platform for Young people to feel safe, included and respected. Young people are encourage to engaged in Youth Centre activities and during these activities young people and youth workers are able to breakdown communication barriers and build a repour and respect, this  enables Youth workers to support and guide young people to make informed choices by offering suggestions to utilise alternate technique such as talking instead fighting to assist young people with their actions, reactions and their emotions, dealing with everyday issues to empower self-esteem, self-awareness, respect, self-worth, confidence and  all the while undertaking and creating masterpieces.

Janet Atkins

Nowra Youth Centre Centre Manager/Youth Worker

Janet began working at the Nowra Youth Centre back in 2008 as the centre cleaner, since  then she has  obtained credential in Business Management, Youth Work and Children’s Services.

 Janet commenced her position as Centre Manager in April, 2014 since that time she has worked with a variety of  community organisations to make a difference in the lives of young people, she  is very approachable and takes the time to listen to the concerns and needs of our young people, she is a  passionate Indigenous women who strives to provide a supportive and safe place for  our young people in the Nowra/Shoalhaven community.

When not working at Nowra Youth Centre In her spare time Janet enjoys gardening, watching movies, cooking, going to the beach and art & craft activities.

Favourite Animal: Dolphins.

Amy Clark

Nowra Youth Centre – Admin Worker / Volunteer D&D Club Facilitator

Amy has volunteered with the Nowra Youth Centre off and on for almost a decade, first as a graphics designer and events management committee member, and later as administration support. Recently she has spearheaded the effort to start a d&d club at the Youth Centre.

Amy enjoys keeping things organised, collecting and collating data into complex spreadsheets, and troubleshooting technical issues, which makes her an ideal administration worker. She is passionate about the good community services organisations can do in the lives of all kinds of people, particularly the importance of information literacy and ensuring free and accessible information and resources for all, which is why she wants to be a public librarian one day. Plus she just really loves books.

When not working at Nowra Youth Centre, Amy plays a lot of d&d and other ttrpgs with her friends, writes original fiction about her d&d characters, reads, and plays video games.

Amy’s favourite author is Seanan McGuire, and her favourite videogame is a tie between the Dragon Age series and the Mass Effect series.
