NYC’s Cooking Program: – Funded by Shoalhaven City Council – Youth Advisory Committee
Our cooking program engages and educates up to 5 young people in our onsite kitchen. Our program runs once a fortnight for 12months on Fridays 5:30pm to 7:30pm
Our facilitator educates young people on the process of preparing healthy food for eating. Cooking also teaches creativity, resourcefulness and openness to learning.
Young people learn about the following methods for cooking:
- Following a recipe
- Collecting ingredients
- Cooking Techniques
- How Food is cooked
- Cooking Equipment
- Cooking food at the right temperature
- Cooking safety
Measuring ingredients in solid and liquid forms using the following equipment ;
- measuring spoons ,
- measuring cups,
- measuring Jugs,
- Other life skills learned when cooking are;
- weight,
- volume,
- patience,
- planning,
- maths
- basic science
- food ingredients that you may have not experience or known about
- reading and understanding recipes
